The Uchiha Holiday Party was the event of the year -- people getting drunk, humping under mistletoe and singing loud obnoxious songs. Unfortunately for her, her parents forced her to come to any and all society balls. She rubbed her temples in irritation as a couple drunk teens waltzed by, unabashedly groping one another. At least she had company who wasn't intent on getting wasted. Or if he was, that was too bad. NO ONE GETS DRUNK AROUND HIKARI WITHOUT GETTING BITCHSLAPPED. "Remind me again why we're here?" the blond asked her date, turning towards Neji with a slight scowl as she watched yet another one of her drunk classmates stumble past, mumbling incoherently. This was really, really not where she wanted to be right now. Her parents had shooed her away from their circle of friends, probably discussing their plans for her future. She was probably being a shitty girlfriend right now. Hikari was past being irritated with this party. She was straight up pissed, now. Mentally slapping her negative attitude, she stood up straighter and tried to put a smile on her face. [atrb=style, background: #aaaaaa; opacity: 0.6] Now, it wasn't uncommon for Neji to attend parties of any kind. Yes, he had the occasional drink, but he never got totally shit-faced. That wasn't him. Letting loose wasn't his thing, even if it made him look like a stuck-up dick, he didn't care. It was his life, his rules and he lived the way he wanted, regardless of what his family thought and wanted. Sure, he still used the Hyuuga name to its fullest but that didn't mean it was all he wanted for his life. Though, his family didn't seemed to mind who his current girlfriend was. The approval helped a little bit at least. He turned his attention back to Hikari, smirking slightly in response to her scowl. She really was cute when she was angry. He stepped forward, wrapping his arms around her shoulders loosely. "We're here because our families want us to be and Sasuke is a good friend of mine," he replied coolly. It was true, he and the younger Uchiha had been friends for a while, since they were younger really. He turned his gaze out to the party once more, half listening to the loud music and half lost in thought. Her voice brought him back to earth again as he looked back to the girl in his arms. "I don't mind. If I did, you know well enough I would have taken you home by now," he replied with a small chuckle. Indeed, Neji wasn't one to put up with most people crap but Hikari was an exception. Even though they started dating mostly for statues and compatibility, he still liked her a great deal.

"we're here because our families want us to be and sasuke is a good friend of mine," "mm, you're right." she replied to him, absently. "and he's my friend too, you know." more like a little brother, in all honesty. she had known the uchihas since she was born and had been something like a sister to both brothers, but mostly a scolding older sister to sasuke. ...and is he drinking a beer? the blond thought to herself before shaking her head, irked by her own thoughts. don't be such a killjoy all the time, she heard the younger uchiha's voice rattle around in her head. god, since when did sasuke tell her what to do? her thin lips quirked again when she heard neji speak once more. it was true -- if he was irritated with her, he would've gotten fed up, pushed her into his car, and driven her home. the hyuuga did what he liked and that was what hikari respected about him. she had no control over what she did, and she genuinely wanted to get out of that rut. "thanks anyway." she murmured, voice self-assured but quiet, "it means a lot that you actually put up with me, even if you don't realize it." the blond didn't do mushy and kind too often, but she tended to open up a lot more with neji -- she was comfortable with him.
